A Taxi ride from Orchard to Tampines
After doing our groceries a week. I said that we might not be able to go to the MRT station. So my wife suggested to call have a taxi instead. But knowing that it would be much expensive I declined. But she said that it will only cost $20. It’s much cheaper than the ordinary taxi that might cost up to $40 from Orchard. I was surprised that he only charge $20 per trip, whether its near or far.
So she called him up and set a meeting place. We waited for almost 15-20 minutes. He came and we hop on. It was a long drive, but its much comfortable than taking the train. We all seat comfortably, the groceries are at the back. He’s very friendly and accommodating.

I had a talk with Darry while going through a long tunnel going back home. “I love driving. Instead of staying home and doing nothing. Why not drive?” according to Darry. He really know every place here in Singapore. He can recommend good places to see and dine. “Its’ started out just as a hobby that just picked up.” he said. ” He only catered to Filipino clients. I didn’t bother to ask why. But having an option to take the cab rather than having the bus or taking the SMRT is great.
I asked him if he plans of expanding his business. He said “Its actually a hobby rather than a business. I get to drive around and get paid at the same time. I can actually say no to a call if I wanted to.” I actually get what his saying. He owns his time. His the BOSS! He actually got a great list of clients. He even had advertise his business but got a negative feedback rather than a good one. People actually can’t believe that his only charging $20 per trip. His always been asked “What’s the catch?”

There is no catch his actually charging $20 per trip. Actually he got that a lot. No one can believe that he only charges $20 per trip anywhere at Singapore. But think about it, where can you get a taxi ride from Orchard to Azalea Condo (which is actually 8 minutes aways from Changi airport). A 15 station ride from Orchard to Tampines station. That’s how far our $20 got us.
I’m telling you, that this no joke. We actually got his service more than 5 time when were at Singapore last X-mas Holiday. Every trip was worth the money we paid him. One is from Beach road back to Azalea Condo at 10pm, we called him an hour before we arrive from Genting Malaysia. Now this is near Bugis station, and we pay the same amount.
So if your planning to go on a vacation at Singapore or working at Singapore and got in a tight situation and you need a ride for a small amount call him.

Darry is truly a great guy. My family have been using his transport service for almost a year now, every Sunday morning going to church. Not only that, we also rent his van for other family event. i think i got hi service for more than 7x(moving hdb, airport transfer–early morning till midnight , sentosa ect..) it was such a good experience and very hassle free. He is very frendly and accomodating.
My family knew Darry too. He helped me when I was setting-up my office for my maid agency business. He would pick-up things from my place and bring it to my office at Tanjong Pagar. He would also pick-up my maids/applicants at the airport (even at the middle of the night). The cost – only SGD20/trip. During trips and vacation, Darry will also bring us to the airport. I will let him khow our schedule of arrival. And I won’t worry of the transportation. He will be there on time to pick us up. He was not just someone to help us with our transportation needs, but he became our friend too. My children will like the smell of his car. Initially we thought it was joke and our friend who introduce this guy was just teasing us. But one time we tried hiring him anyways, to our surprise it was for real and he only charge 20 dollar from and to any point in Singapore. He also love kids and would regularly give our son some pasalubong when ever we hire him sending us to our weekly church Sunday service. We’ve known Darry for quite a while and we’ve became friends. He also accomodate lipat bahay, but that’s only for those guys who have little stuffs to bring.

I first came to know this guy at pinoy.sg and i really can’t believe the flat rate of SGD20 anywhere in Singapore, because I’ve been taking a cab here for the past 12 years or so and I’ve got to know the approx rates for each trip.
Quite an experience taking a trip with him for several times, a kind and very accomodating driver, and pleasant to talk with too.

I met Darry thru a friend, Annie, who works at Options Studio in Singapore. He drove me a couple of times to the airport when I trained for STOTT Pilates for the same studio.
On the way to the airport, I had told him that I had the opportunity to dance in Gary Valenciano’s concert with the Manouvers “Shout” in 1992 and “Move” in 1996. In fact, I used to dance professionally for Whiplash (a professional dance group in the Philippines). Darry says his Pinoy friends didn’t believe him. I have since sent him a photo of myself with my girl friends from Whiplash and Pops Fernandez, Martin Nievera and Richard Gomez.

i had the pleasure of meeting darry last week. my brother who lived in singapore contacted him to pick us up in the airport in the middle of the night, and my first impression of him was that he’s a gentle, kind and humble person… i liked him immediately. he’s very chatty, very nice to talk to and u find yourself to wanna listen to him. he gave us some facts about singapore, and told us how beautiful singapore is. he is singaporean but he prefers to cater only filipinos. of course, when we hopped in to his very comfortable car, filipino songs will greet your ears. how accomodating is that?! plus we got a welcome present from him! all these for 20 bucks.

i saw darry’s advertsmnt @ pinoy.sg, so before we go to singapore for a tour i already set an appoinments for all our pick up’s. maybe we enjoyed our cty tour if we’ve used darry us our tour guide and not booked in travel tours..he’s really nice guy and fun to chat with. Last Holyweek April 20,2011 my 3 officemates and I went to Singapore for a 4 days vacation, to unwind from work. Darry is the one who picked up us from the airport,to our hotel and then to Universal Studious. He is really a very kind, friendly and accomodating guy. He is really a good driver,his taxi smells good,and purely pinoy service only. We’ve learned a lot from him about Singapore. He gave us souvenir, a singapore key holder for the first timers like us in SG, he bought us malaysian noodles for free,then on our last night in SG he gave us a complimentary drive to Changi Airport Terminal 3 to see and witness the best airport in the world and lastly he treated us to “Kopitiam” in T3 to try and taste the best coffee in Singapore, and we really like the taste of the coffee. To you Darry, our biggest thanx for your kindness, hospitability and understanding for my one officemate who came late during your desired pick up time from our hotel all the way to the airport for our departure in SG. Darry was referred to us by our flatmate. My Ate and I were pretty surprised at his rate of $20. We wanted to be sure it wasn’t a typo or different currency, but it really was that cheap. I found him very friendly and quite helpful. He seems to be sincere about his fondness for my countrymen. Akala ko nga Pinoy na kunyari local hehe but he must be the real deal. Safe driver too. I’m sure he’ll be rewarded the same courtesy he shows when he visits the Philippines.

Yes, a lot has question his rate. From what I know prices of fuel has gone up and also fare for taxi’s and MRT, but true to his promise he only charge $SG20.00 per trip anywhere in SG. Do say Hi for me when you call him again.
